If you like Hawaiian music, I am sure you have heard this traditional song, “Pua Lilia”, composed by Alfred Unauna Alohikea. It is one of my favorite mele, and oh boy, it has so much meanings…
Listen to the rain
Creeping silently along the cliffs
It looks as if this flower has been plucked
Shapely the upland
The very upland that I’ll enjoy
With the sweet fragrance of my flower
You are a flower, always to wear as a lei
The fragrance of my lily blossom

I think Hawaiians are very romantic & passionate people – you can tell by their way of expressing love and hate. Maybe that’s one of the reasons why I am so attracted to Hawaiian culture…?
Brothers Cazimero sing this mele with so much emotion and it just makes me cry. I cannot wait to dance with Kumu Robert in July – it’s going to be another fabulous experience : )
